Most of us probably know silly string as that fun, weird, and somewhat sticky string that comes out of a can. But, are you aware that silly spray is generically known as aerosol string, a flexible substance that is shot from an aerosol can like a stream of water? Or that it’s first name was ‘squibbly’? Did you know that the military actually uses silly string in detecting trip wires? And as of 2006 the United states military troops in Iraq are using it. Did you know that party spray is banned from Hollywood, California from 12 a.m. October 31 to 12 a.m. November 1st?
Imagine an entire 24 hour period where you could get incarcerated for getting caught illegally using silly string. It was also banned in Marlborough, Massachusetts on holidays and in Long Island within 1,500 feet of any parade. Los Angeles is also considering banning the spray, calling it a hazard. Most people would call it a “silly” problem, but when millionaires are dealing with party spray graffiti, it can get just a little frustrating. Plus, silly spray can sometimes damage upholstery and vinyl wallpaper.
Although the spray has its problems, like any other product does, party spray can be one the most enjoyable ways you’ll ever spend an afternoon. You simply have to find the right games to play it with.
Silly spray holds over four-hundred feet of string. One can measured 1600 feet of string. That’s a lot of string to play with. It helps that there are so many game options to choose from. Even if you aren’t going to be playing a game with it, and you just want to be silly, that’s a lot of string for silliness. So, here are some options:
1. War: Yes, warring can be fun when your weapon is silly spray. Each person is given a can of string, you divide into two teams, and begin “fighting.” Once you get ‘shot’, you’re out until someone on your team gets someone on the other team out. The team with no players at the end of the game loses.
2. Silly string art: Get a bunch of cardboard or butcher paper and many different colors of party spray. Have contests to see who can draw (or spray) the best flower, dog, car, tree, etc. Get creative. There is definitely an unexplored treasure of ‘silly’ art.
Now that your awareness about silly string has risen to new heights, get some and go play.
